Jada Pinkett Smith has donated $1 million to the Baltimore School for the Arts. The Collateral actress has requested that the money be used to honor her fallen classmate, Tupac Shakur with a theater in his name. Shakur was shot and killed in Las Vegas in 1996.
“It means a lot when you’re a teacher and your most famous alumnus comes back to give a donation,” theater department head, and former Pinkett teacher, Donald Hickens says. “It really says a lot to the community that the school matters in people’s lives.”
Pinkett Smith is married to Will Smith, and is also the mother of Jaden Smith. Father and son are currently starring in The Pursuit of Happyness together. Before Monday’s announcement, the couple had already donated $112,500 to the school from their Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation towards increasing enrollment.
